Hirota Glass Lacquered Wood Chirori
Established in 1899, Hirota Glass is one of the oldest glassmakers in Tokyo. A pioneer from its earliest days, the company has tried to combine imported European ideas in glass manufacture, with styles and artistry from Japan. One result are tea type pots which are actually decanters for hot sake. In these designs, Hirota hark back to what they call the Taisho Roman style: that is, romanticism within the Taisho period (1912-1926). This was an era that contained a flowering of freedom in politics and design in Japan, and its spirit is present in these exquisitely made glass pieces.
